The visa type is only assigned to family members of individuals living in the US permanently. Applicants that qualify for a permanent resident family member visa are a spouse, unmarried kids over age twenty-one, and little children of individuals living in the US permanently. The F-1 visa is a good example of a permanent resident family member visa.
