There is a limit to the number of visas that are granted. Different factors dictate these quotas, such as the country of residence of the applicant and the visa they are applying for. Petitions for family members can be impacted by the type of relationship they have to the US citizen or legal resident in question. There are 10,000 visas approved annually for EB-5 applicants. This quota has not been met by any nationality other than those from mainland China. When a quota has been reached a designated cut off point is applied. Up to June 2017, the only group of applicants that have triggered this cut-off in the EB-5 visa category were applicants born on mainland China. That date was the 8th of June 2014.
