Cut-off date

The term used to announce dates that control, in combination with the priority date, when visas for a particular category are available. Essentially, an immigrant in the well-known queue waiting for visa considers the cut-off date as a ‘currently serving’ number. Before or on the priority date is where the cut-off date must be to have availability of visas in a particular category. May 22, 2014 is the cut-off date for Chinese citizens born in the mainland in the EB-5 category. This is the only immigrant group that has a cut-off date as of March 2017
