When compared to most other nations in the world, the United States is one of the safest. Although the country does have its violent crime, with statistics provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigations highlighting that there are nearly 400 violent crimes in 2017 per 100,000 people. However, there are a number of places in the United States that are peaceful and nearly without major criminal actions.
In a number of the states, higher crime rates persist. However, in others the crime rates are quite low. In 2019, the US News and World Report provided a list of the safest states in America by ranking. This list is read as the safest states are listed first to last, the last being the least safe.
In the report, both violent and property crimes were observed in each state in the US and determined which were the safest.
According to the report, Maine was considered to be the safest state in the United States. When looking at violent crimes, Maine was observed as the lowest crime rate. However, property crimes made the state come in 4th place in the ranking. The second safest state in the US went to Vermont. The state ranked second in lowest rates in violent and property crime. Third place was given to New Hampshire. Although the state was third in terms of violent crime, it has the lowest overall crime rates concerning property offences.
