During the eight-month lapse in the popular EB-5 regional center investment route that started in June 2021, the EB-5 direct investment route remained open, though it was still not particularly popular due to its hard-to-navigate rules. Now that the EB-5 regional center system is back in action for the next five years, it too has new, more stringent rules and a higher pricetag. That said, these new rules (which include audits of regional centers) should make the EB-5 industry itself more professional, says Suresh Rajan of LCR Capital Partners. He notes that the next important issue to tackle will be reducing the long wait times for USCIS processing of EB-5 visa and green card applications.
