Most ultra-high-net-worth individuals interested in investment migration come from India, the UK, and the US. Of the 600,000 Indians (of all financial levels) who gave up their citizenship between 2017 and 2021, 40% went to the US. The top five countries where wealthy Indians want to migrate through investment are, in order, Portugal, Australia, the US, Malta, and Greece. Alternate residency programs give Indians access to global lifestyles as well as to diversified investments in different asset classes that they may not have access to at home. Portugal’s Golden Visa program is considered one of the most attractive due to its low initial investment amount, its low residency requirements, and the access it gives investors to the rest of the EU.
