Portugal’s high standard of living–including excellent education and health care systems and a solid economic and employment situation–have made it a top world destination. The Portugal Golden Visa program, which allows foreign investors to apply for permanent residence in the country, is particularly attractive, given its minimal residency requirements (7 to 14 days/year), brief application-to-approval period (less than a year), and range of investment amounts (starting at €280,000 for rehabbing real estate in low-density areas and rising to €1.5 million for capital transfers).
